Young children aged 5 to 7 learning Scratch block coding at LCCL, Orchard Road Singapore

AGES 5–7 · IN-PERSON · SCRATCH

Early Creators: a child's first code, ages 5–7.

Our in-person programme for 5–7 year olds at Orchard Road. They drag and drop colourful Scratch blocks — no reading or typing needed — and build their first little games and animations through play.

THE PROGRAMME

Block coding, made for ages 5–7.

Block coding (also called visual coding) lets young children program by dragging and dropping colourful blocks instead of typing. There's no syntax to memorise and nothing to spell — just the same computational thinking taught at top schools, learned through play.

HOW IT GROWS

From first blocks to first algorithms.

Early Creators moves at a young child's pace. Each class is a small, finished project they're proud of.

STAGE 1
First projects in Scratch

They guide characters through fun adventures, placing drag-and-drop code blocks in sequence to solve each puzzle — and cheer when the code runs and it works.

STAGE 2
Sequential thinking and problem-solving

Breaking a task into steps, like following a recipe. Testing ideas, fixing what doesn't work, and trying again — real coding logic, learned through play.

STAGE 3
Confidence to create

Scratch games, animated stories and pixel-art characters — their first real algorithms, built and shown off. When they're ready, they progress to Coding Fundamentals.

SINCE 2012

Why parents trust us with their child's first code.

LCCL was founded by Juliana, an NUS Computer Science graduate, and our curriculum is advised by Professor Leong Hon Wai of NUS. We've taught coding to over 3,000 children since 2012.

That experience shows up in the small things: how to pace a five-year-old, when to step in, when to let them puzzle it out. In 2025, our students became IDE2025 Overall Champions.

WHAT TO EXPECT

More than a finished game.

1

They solve a real problem

Not copying the teacher — your child thinks through a puzzle and makes it work. Watch them light up when the code runs.

2

You'll know if they're ready

Our teachers assess attention and interest, then give you honest feedback on the right time to start. No pressure to continue.

3

They learn real block coding

Through visual, hands-on play, your child picks up the sequential thinking and debugging that coding is built on.

WHAT PARENTS & STUDENTS SAY

"My son has been with LCCL Coding Academy for 5 years, since he was in Kindergarten 2. Over the years, coding has become something he truly loves. He placed in the Top 20 in this year's Coding Olympics."

Eileen NeoMum of a student since K2

"LCCL flexibly used different platforms to help kids develop different facets important to coders. Above all, the classes are fun, relaxing, and casual, and my kids love them."

Yong MingDad of a 6 and 8 year-old

"Juliana is very dedicated in coaching my son, who has learning challenges, to code in Scratch. She develops logical thinking in a fun and interactive way."

KhangminMum of an Early Creators student

"I had some trouble with the programming and learned to never give up."

PARENTS ASK

"Is 5 really not too young?"

Not at all. Children who start at kindergarten age tend to build good problem-solving habits and a learning attitude that set up coding success later. We see it every term.

"What is block coding for kids?"

Block coding (also called visual coding) lets children program by dragging and dropping colourful blocks instead of typing. Scratch, created by MIT, is the most popular block coding platform — perfect for 5–7 year olds who can't read or type yet.

"Can my child start earlier than 5?"

A group of Singapore educators found that children younger than 5 don't yet grasp the concept of loops well, which slows their progress. Starting at 5, and no younger, works best.

"How is this different from the trial class?"

The trial is a single 60-minute taster class. Early Creators is the ongoing weekly programme it leads into. Booking a trial is the best way to see the class and meet the teacher first.

"Where exactly in Orchard?"

Forum Office Tower, 583 Orchard Road #13-01. It's a 5-minute walk from Orchard MRT (Exit A), with parking at the Forum carpark.

See a class for yourself.

Book a single trial class. Your child builds a small project in 60 minutes, and you'll get honest feedback on whether they're ready — no pressure to continue.
