Coding Fundamentals students aged 8 to 11 building games at LCCL, Orchard Road Singapore

AGES 8–11 · IN-PERSON · ORCHARD ROAD

Coding Fundamentals: from player to maker, ages 8–11.

Our in-person programme for 8–11 year olds at Orchard Road. They start with Scratch and grow into real Python — building games, animations and apps with proper logic underneath. Most start as complete beginners.

THE PROGRAMME

Real coding, taught through projects.

Coding Fundamentals takes children from dragging Scratch blocks to writing their own code. Every class builds something — a game, an animation, an app — so the logic sticks because they used it, not because they memorised it.

HOW IT GROWS

A path from Scratch to real code.

Coding Fundamentals is the start of a multi-year roadmap. Children move at their own pace, building real projects at every stage.

STAGE 1
Foundations in Scratch

They build platformer games, quiz apps and animations while learning variables, loops and logic visually — real coding concepts, made intuitive.

STAGE 2
Code in the real world

Coding leaves the screen: they program MakeBlock Arduino robots and micro:bit devices, watching their instructions move real hardware.

STAGE 3
Into real Python

The step up from blocks to text. They start writing Python, working through problem-solving and algorithms — the same building blocks professional developers use.

STAGE 4
Build and invent

Interactive web with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, a first look at data and AI, and student R&D projects they design themselves.

SINCE 2012

Why parents trust us with their child's coding.

LCCL was founded by Juliana, an NUS Computer Science graduate, and our curriculum is advised by Professor Leong Hon Wai of NUS. We've taught coding to over 3,000 children since 2012.

Our students don't just finish projects. Many go on to win national coding competitions and ace computing in secondary school. In 2025, they became IDE2025 Overall Champions.

WHAT TO EXPECT

More than a finished project.

1

They build things that work

Not worksheets. Real games and animations your child is proud to show you — then keep building at home.

2

Thinking that transfers

Breaking problems into steps, testing, debugging. The habits show up in computing class and well beyond it.

3

A clear path as they grow

A steady Scratch → Python progression, with competition preparation for students who want to take it further.

WHAT PARENTS & STUDENTS SAY

"My son has been with LCCL Coding Academy for 5 years, since he was in Kindergarten 2. The teachers are warm, patient, and genuinely invested in their students' growth. He placed in the Top 20 in this year's Coding Olympics."

Eileen NeoMum of a student since K2

"The boys had plenty of fun in your class. They said time flew by, they wished there was more time. We like that the class is small and the ratio is good."

Yee PingAunt of Isaac (10) and Ben (8)

"The thing I like about the game programming bootcamp is that after we make the game, we get to play it."

Khien KhaiStudent, age 8

"I like everything and all of the projects in the bootcamp because they're so cool. The teacher is awesome."

PARENTS ASK

"Is this real coding or just playing?"

It's real coding. We use interactive projects to teach actual programming concepts — variables, loops and logic — the same foundations used in any language, including Python.

"What if my child has never coded?"

Perfect. 95% of our students start with zero experience. We begin with Scratch basics and build up, so making games and animations feels intuitive and fun.

"How is this different from the trial class?"

The trial is a single 90-minute taster class. Coding Fundamentals is the ongoing weekly programme it leads into. Booking a trial is the best way to see the class and meet the teacher first.

"Will this help with school?"

Coding builds logical thinking and problem-solving. Our teachers see students gain confidence, persistence and sharper focus over time — which shows up in computing class later.

"Where exactly is the class?"

Forum Office Tower, 583 Orchard Road #13-01. It's a 5-minute walk from Orchard MRT (Exit A), with parking at the Forum carpark.

See a class for yourself.

Book a single trial class. Your child builds a real project in 90 minutes, and you'll get honest feedback on the right level — no pressure to continue.
